NLOGIN (1.1) NAME nlogin - Automated login to Novell file server. SYNOPSIS nlogin [/d] [/f] [/l] ... DESCRIPTION This version (date of 1/6/91) has a fix to handle ids that have passwords. Nlogin automates logins to a Novell file server. This is accomplished by reading a data file on the server's system volume that is available to any attached station. The data file contains a list of station hardware addresses. Each station address has a list of server and usernames the station should attempt to login to. The process of determining the login server and username from the server rather than on each individual station greatly simplifies the logic needed to reassign many stations to another server. Also the data file contains a list of servers to attempt logins on, if the first server in the list is unavailable, the next server in the list will be attempted. This allows some minimal recovery mechanism when a server becomes unavailable. Both of these features ease the management of the logins, and provide greater flexibility when using them. Nlogin is designed to centralize the station to server/username selection process. A central database is maintained with the station addresses and the associated server/username combinations. The database can be maintained on one server, or on several for speed gain. The database file is a standard ASCII text file, for easy maintenance. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Mert Nickerson Internet: Mert@portland.maine.edu Academic Computing Services Bitnet: Mert@portland University of Southern Maine Phone: (207)780-4678 Portland, Maine 04103-4899 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
